16th century Spanish ship found off Florida coast

Divers are examining the remains of a ship which sank off the coast of Pensacola, Florida during a hurricane in 1559. The ship is believed to be one of several Spanish ships sent to colonize the area. A previous ship was discovered 15 years ago.
The ship lies in shallow waters, just twelve feet below the surface, and is partially buried in sand. Teams of archaeologists, including students from the University of West Florida, are working on the project. |
