"I itch in the cathedral; When I pray upon my knees: God, You saved us from damnation; Now save us from the fleas!" writes Laura Amy Schlitz in Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices From a Medieval Village, a new children's book reviewed by John Schwartz for the Sunday New York Times.
Schwartz believes that young readers will find the new book "engaging, affecting and occasionally giggle-worthy." Schlitz, a librarian, wrote the book to help her students learn about the Middle Ages. The book, et in the year 1255, consists of 19 monologues and two dialogues from youngsters of the village. |
