Crusaders left genetic mark on the Middle East

Scientists from the Genographic Project, which is tracking human migrations through DNA, have found traces of a particular DNA signature in Lebanon which they link to European crusaders.
Researchers discovered that Lebanese Christians carried specific European DNA, while Muslims in the country carried signature DNA from the Arabic peninsula, a fact they attribute to the spread of Islam in the 7th and 8th centuries. |
