A medieval ark hidden behind a false wall tells the tale of a secret 16th century synagogue concealed by the city's persecuted Jews.

When Catholic priest Fr. Agostinho Jardim Moreira purchased a centuries-old building for use as a retirement home for his parishoners, he never dreamed that the stone house once concealed a medieval synagogue. The secret was discovered when construction workers removed a wall which held a medieval ark.
