Oslo Garbage Dump Yields Medieval Treasures

A garbage dump dating from the 13th or 14th century has been discovered in Oslo, Norway. The massive collection of discarded items includes over 1,000 shoes.

Also found in the midden were inscribed wooden bowls, a comb, leather mittens and parts of swords or knives. Archaeologists say that the items were finely made and intricately decorated.
