Ghiberti worked for 27 years making the doors for the Baptistery in Florence's Piazza del Duomo. Ten panels in high and low relief illustrate scenes from the Old Testament. It was Michelangelo who gave the doors their sobriquet, saying they were fine enough to hang at the entrance to paradise. Replica doors currently hang in their place in Florence.
