Analysis of a fingerprint left by Leonardo Da Vinci suggests the prototypical Renaissance man may have been the son of a Middle East-born slave woman.

The project to reconstruct the fingerprint began in 2002. The complete fingerprint has characteristics in common with Arab populations. Traditionally, Leonardo's mother was thought to be a local peasant.
