SCA family sues over banned yearbook photo

The mother of the high school senior whose yearbook banned his photo in SCA armor and sword has sued on her son's behalf. The Rhode Island ACLU is supporting the suit, which seeks to prevent the publication of the yearbook without the picture.

The school principal told the mother that she could pay to have the photo printed in the advertising section of the yearbook, a circumstance the ACLU says "demonstrates...that there's absolutely no legitimate rationale for banning Patrick's photo." The suit also claims that the school's "no weapons" policy is arbitrarily applied, noting that the school's mascot, a patriot, is portrayed on campus as bearing a weapon.
