Joan of Arc Relic Authenticity in Doubt

A piece of bone and fragment of blackened cloth preserved in France since the fifteenth century may not be authentic relics of St. Joan. A new scientific examination of the items raises questions.
The items do appear to be of the right period, but the cloth was darkened by dyeing, not burning, weakening the claim that it was collected from Joan's pyre. The bone shows signs of embalming, which was not performed in her case. |
