As the far off and distant drums of WAR call to us, many are left to wonder…..Who will plant our crops, take care of our cattle and raise our children while we are away? Who do we trust to pay our ransom should we be in need? Who among our peoples will be left to carry on as the glorious fighters of the Outlands go off to WAR? As any fighter will tell you, those we leave behind are as important as those who fight next to us.

In the center of the Outlands within the Barony of Dragonsspine, lies a small Abbey where children of the local area are educated and taught the skills and lessons of the day. The pride of the Outlands is its children and these same youth are proud to announce their first ever EVENT. They have spent the year preparing to welcome you as their guests. For this special event they have devised a Tournament like no other…a Tournament to test the skills and mettle of our Kingdom’s Consorts. So, Come one and all to the Dragonsspine Candlemas and Consorts Tourney. Rest a while among your friends and family in our Great Hall. Dance the afternoon away or watch the fighters in the court yard. Yes, there will be FIGHTING and ARCHERY tournaments as well…for those who can handle the cold. Indoor competitions will rule the day as the best of our Kingdom try to impress one another with their skills in the “consortly arts”. This is a day to recoup and gather one’s strength for the coming battles. This is a day to see who among us is the better Consort. "The Dragonsspine Abbey is an unofficial subgroup of Dragonsspine consisting of students and faculty of Coronado High School." The Consort Tournament
Just as a Fighter and Consort both hold important places within the Castle, so too will two people be judged on their strengths and faults. The couple with the most points at the end of the day, wins. However, please note that you will be judged as an individual and then your combined points will be tallied for the final score. It is possible for the second or third place winner of a martial tournament to win the Overall Consorts Tourney, as your points are not necessarily based on your kills alone. The Consort's points also count in the overall total. And the best Consort may not be teamed with the best fighter. So as you can see no one will know who the winner is until the announcement at Closing Court.
The Martial Arts: Heavy Weapons, Rapier and Archery will be represented. Extra points can be given each to fighter who displays “presence”, best death, and courtesy. There is a 10 point maximum for this activity.
The Consorts Activities: There will be an A&S competition on prepared pieces. One item will be judged by a panel of judges. Standard A&S judging will be used in this competition. As always documentation is a plus. A Surprise Site Competition will also be held in which the Consort may choose which A&S piece they wish to attempt that day (the guidelines and everything you will need to complete the project will be provided). And as Grace and Charm were very important in the well rounded Consort, these will be two areas in which our Consorts will be judged as well. This section of the Tournament also has a 10 point competition maximum.
The Combined Competition: Will consist of the Grand Court Processional. The Fighter and Consort will process through Court behind their banner/s and a herald who will announce their presence. They will be judged solely on presentation. Their clothing, banner and herald can be bought or made by others. This would have been a period way of doing things. This is the time to dust off your courtly graces. Points will be given for liveried servants and matching garb. Just note that judging will be on the overall performance and appearance.
One Entertainment piece must be performed at some time during the day in front of judges. This entertainment can be performed by either the Fighter or the Consort or both. A 10 point maximum will be awarded for this portion.
You can choose to not compete in one or more of the required areas. But do remember that it counts against your overall total.
The Prize Package
We don’t do it for the loot but…. This Prize Package will be worth the efforts. No lovely candles and gift baskets here. Please stop by the entrance hall table to see the Treasure Chest filled with goods from the Dragonsspine Artisans. Prizes will be photographed and posted as they become available, so that all can drool over their fine quality and workmanship well before the actual event.
Feast Menu
While this is a catered Feast, our caterer has tried very hard to stick with a period Feast for us. Bring your traditional table settings and feast gear. Food will be served buffet style. There will be no limit on Feast reservations. We can easily feed 500 in this hall but reservations will be cut off for advance purchase on January 19, 2007. This is to give the caterer notice. We will over reserve a few feast places which will be available at a first come, first serve basis at the door.
The Vegetarian option is Spinach and Ricotta filled Pasta Shells with Marinara and cheese. Please make note of the need for a Vegetarian Meal on your reservation. Off Board seating might be available. Please feel free to enquire with me. The more enquiries the more likely it is to happen.
Call for Classes and Teachers
There are a few select spots available for classes in areas dealing with the “consortly arts” Which includes most of the Arts and Sciences. If you are interested in teaching at this event please get in touch with the Autocrat at the contact info above.
Merchants
Merchants please contact the Autocrat at the above address or email for reservations. The fee for space will be a total of $35 and includes two site reservations. Please provide tables. If you need tables, contact me ahead of time and we can try to make arrangements. To replace last year's Hospitality Room (too few could leave their booths long enough to take full advantage of it) we will have a Hospitality Wench come around to your booth frequently with beverages and munchies. This is part of your merchants benefits. Feel free to enjoy them.
