"Lost" Islamic kingdom discovered

A team of French archaeologists have discovered three towns in the Rift Valley of Ethiopia which they believe are part of the "lost" Islamic kingdom of Shoa. The Muslim stronghold was an important stop on the trade route from the 10th to the 16th centuries.
The team has unearthed the remains of several mosques, tombs and one of the largest burial grounds in the country. One of the towns, Nora, was Nora was "clearly once a 'dense urban centre,' with a network of streets and the remains of roads, and whose main mosque has remains of walls up to five metres high." |
