The Mary Rose, flagship to King Henry VIII, is facing a much more devious enemy than French warships: bacteria which produce a corrosive acid.

The bacteria have been discovered growing in the timbers of the ship and is reacting with the iron bolts and nails to produce sulphuric acid. Unchecked, the bacteria could destroy the hull of the ship.
