Karen Rosenberg of the New York Times reviews an exhibit of medieval manuscripts depicting the art of the hunt at the Morgan Library & Museum. The centerpiece of the exhibit is the museum's copy of Le Livre de la Chasse, a lavishly-illuminated volume depicting hunt scenes.(photos)

A recent study of European cod bones shows that "cod were exploited in the Middle Ages from many, often distant, fishing grounds, with an international trade in dried stockfish." The fish were much larger in medieval times, and began to began to be traded around the year 1000 C.E.

The hunting horn sounds again, deer are getting ready to flee, hunters' calls can be heard from all sides. It is Hunting Season again! For the sixth year the shire of "Ad Flumen Caerulum" opens the hunting season and once more invites all archers to celebrate the begin of the hunt with us. The archery competition will be held on a beautiful field archery course in the alps south of Vienna. This gives an opportunity to test your archery skills by walking through beautiful woods, trying to find the targets, and hopefully hitting them.
