Hello,
One and all, I am not sure how to even begin this lol but I was an SCA member back in the early 90s in Midrealm. (Southwest Ohio) I was a member of Erslogenhold if I spelled it correctly, and I was just reaching out to see if anyone was still in contact from those days. I am working on joining the SCA again and wanted to see who was still around? Let me know

I am in the process of developing my persona. I have gone so far as to create a bit of background for my persona (Guinevere's parents). I have a couple of questions reguarding Guinevere's mother:
Time period: 1499
A`ine has been educated by a Welsh man, Phelip. Phelip comes to A`ine's rescue. They get married with the blessing of A`ine's Father. A`ine and Phelip move to Wales because of the growing unrest between the Protestant and Cathloic's.

Has anyone looked at the latest McCalls patterns for this costume season? They have a wealth of medieval patterns....but I'm having a hard time deciding which elements are authentic and which I should remove. Please advise. Thanks!

I need some help researching and recreating clothing for my personna.
He is a mid 16th century Swiss (Canton of Bern, somewhere rural) Anabaptist.
The main difficulty here is finding just what the early Anabaptists dressed like, my research has led me to believe it will be something of a simplified version of common peasant clothes of that time -peasant clothes are hard to find too.
I already (mostly) know about regular shirts, pants, etc. What I need to know is what would be authentic regarding Jackets/coats, vests, etc.

hello brothers of the blade and sisters of the farm. i am a completely new member to the sca, and would like some help. first off, i am a youth, dont judge me. but i am already completely loyal to meridies, my kingdom, proof? look at my sig. anyway, i have some questions that id like answered.
first, i am a extremely intrested in youth combat. i have practiced sword-play and archery for years, since i was a small boy, i am still a youth though! i grow tired of shooting targets with my bow and always hitting bullseye. i grow tired of cleaving bales of hay in half with one well aimed blow. i thirst for real combat. for a challenge. for real enemys. the question is, is youth combat rare? or does it happen in much festivals, such as the upcoming event beggars rebellion?i have trained double time sice i heard of this...sca.

A place to debate your opinions about historical happenings. I know ther are alot of people who do not agree on some points and I think we could all learn and and gain a lot from a little debate.

Ok for the people who have read this forum, I have decided to do some tinkering with oriental history (which is with in the SCA......I have done the research) If anyone would like to contribute I would appreciate it. Here are some of the things I have researched:
Samurai armour (I have a few good links that I will post soon)
Weapons (traditional weapons to include "kitana's, honor blades"
I will be starting to research dwelling construction, archery, and probably some martial arts (I have already completed a year in Korea training in Hapkido)I have started a forum on my webiste

Sorry for the absence. i have recently moved to insulea draconis and am finding mysef to be settling in rather slow. hopefully soon i will have more time to devote to the research portion that i have promised that i would give to you all. and i am also working on some other in person research items (visiting local excavations). i will try my best to keep you all posted. and just maybe for those of you who are wondering about roman occupation of england and the reach of the roman empire to the north beyond the wall. i leave with this question did norse (viking) people who settled northern scotland draw any martial practices form the romans? ie...armor, weapons, and military tactics, coin(financial plan)and if they did to what extent?

Hello,
I'm creative director at a Shakespeare summer camp for kids, and our 3x5 renaissance flags have heaved their last sigh and are finally unusable. Since they're about 25 years old, I can't track down the person my predecessor got them from.
Any ideas as how to aquire some new ones? They're heraldic, I believe, but I'll take any ideas, since my boss is considering replacing them with American flags!

When I joined the SCA I was under the impression that we are a group who share the same interests and hobbies. Over the past few months I have had one person help me out. And I would like to say thanks for the help. as for the rest of you I am sure you have lots of information or at least some helpfull research items that you used to research your own persona, but none of it has been posted. So keeping in the spirit of the SCA I will try my best to post a new link atleast once a week if not more frequently. and to those who post links or other helpful information I extend my greatest appreciation. if the reason that some people have not posted is because of kingdom or shire rivalry then your not holding to the true form of the SCA. we are all people who share the same past times. and there are to few of us out there who share the same passions to with hold helpful information. so lets take care of one another.

I have been trying to research the swedish vikings of around 1000 ad, and have had no luck with any information. I contacted the swedish historical society in hopes to gain some much needed knowledge. but to no avail I have not recieved any input from them. I have searched my local libraries as well as books stores (ie... books-a-millian, barnes and noble and walden books)if anyone has any information to share I would be greatly appreciative.
