Artemisia ArmorialKingdom of Artemisia

Welcome to the web site for the Kingdom of Artemisia, a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international organization dedicated to the study and re-enactment of the Middle Ages. There are no spectators in the SCA, and every person plays a part in creating the atmosphere.

Mundanely, Artemisia consists of Utah, Montana, southern Idaho and the parts of Colorado and Wyoming that are west of the Continental Divide.

The content of this site is here as a resource both for the populace of Artemisia, and for those who would like to know more about Artemisia's people, arts, laws, and customs. Recognized as a Principality in May of 1988, Artemisia was elevated to Kingdom status in July of 1997. As Lord Vladimir has said, "we [the populace] selectively recreate medieval culture, choosing elements of the culture that interest and attract us." The populace of the Kingdom devotes their free time in all manner of sport (heavy fighting, rapier fighting, equestrian activities), crafts (leatherwork, spinning, calligraphy), and educational activities (classes or research). Royalty holds their courts, a part of which is bestowing awards on deserving citizens. The populace holds tournaments, attend feasts, and enjoy the Middles Ages, as "they should have been."

If you are new to the SCA (or not a member and wondering what it's all about) we recommend that you go to the Library and read What Is the SCA as well as other articles you can link to from that page. The Society also has a page full of information for newcomers.

There is a Travel Advisory if journeying to the Kingdom of Lochac (Australia).
