A heritage group has received £10,000 to help it stage a medieval fair in Whaplode in July. Whaplode Heritage and Educational Action Team's (WHEAT) application for funding from the Awards for All Lottery scheme covers half of the cost of the event, which will take place in the grounds of St Mary's Church from July 4 to July 6.
The fair marks the 701st anniversary of Edward I's Royal Charter granting the village a fair and will feature medieval re-enactments, archery, falconry demonstrations and 25 fully-equipped tents containing a number of attractions.
WHEAT has received grants from South Holland District Council, Lincolnshire Co-op, a £3,000 contribution from Fens Food and Flowers and is awaiting the result of a funding application of £3,500 to Lincolnshire County Council, which would help it reach the £20,000 needed.
Anyone interested in getting involved in the project can visit WHEAT's website at beehive.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/WHEAT.
