We Put Our Foot In Everything!

Do you have an idea for a public program event at the Bata Shoe Museum? You don't have to be a shoe expert to start something!

Are you a performer? Shoes have inspired plays, dances, music, and art.
Are you a storyteller? Shoes are the main show in many a film, folk tale, and novel.
Are you an expert in your field? Ancient cultures, current fashion trends, political events past and present, or economics are just some of the subjects that can be explored by looking at footwear.

To find out what it takes to get involved, follow this link.

There's always something happening at the Museum! Our changing exhibitions and collections inspire talks, music, family activities, and much more with a unique flavour found nowhere else.

Here's a print-friendly Events Program for September through December 2008.
This PDF file (2 pages, 680 KB) prints on legal size (8 1/2 x 14") paper.
You may need to download and install the free Adobe Reader to view PDF files.

Workshop

Knit-Your-Own-Sock Workshop

Led by Sally Karamath and the ladies of the community knitting group Casting Off the Cold.

Learn how to keep your feet warm and cozy during those cold winter nights. These hand-knit socks are not what your grandma used to make – choose colourful yarns and funky patterns to create your own one-of- a-kind pair of socks.

Participants should have some experience with knitting and crochet to take part in this workshop and need to bring their own needles and yarn. For regular socks bring fine sock yarn and four double pointed needles (size 2.75 metric), or for a heavier sock use worsted weight (i.e. Berella) and four double pointed needles (size 4.0 metric). You'll learn to cast on, knit the heel, turn the heel, carry on to the toe and finish the sock. Once you learn how to make that first pair you'll be hooked!
