Three examples
of drafts found in the Thomas Adams books mentioned in the Shuttle Spindle &

- Figure
1: initial sample woven from the 1870 book of drafts. Notice the Scottish
method of walking the treadles. The cloth has a distinctly different appearance
front and back.
- Figure
2: a multi-harness backed cloth named 4-End Twill Backed. Cloth was originally
woven in white 60/2 worsted wool, with gray backing threads on hrnesses 2,
5, 8 and 11.
- Figure
3: Sattara Stripe, in Oxford Cheviot wool. The colors used were not indicated.
